Our meeting last night is one which I'm sure will forever PROTRUDE in people's minds, and for a number of reasons.
We kicked off with the usual pomp and ceremony just after 8pm and had a number of new faces:
John Keating - visiting DTM from West Cork as part of our D71 travelling toastie program!
Mary Martin - Mary was with Blarney a number of years ago and popped in to say hi
Tom Honey - Tom was visiting again but has finally bit the bullet and signed up as a new member - welcome Tom!
We had two speeches this evening - the first was delivered by Jerome O'Donovan who took us through an education speech on building club membership - this was a presentation based speech with discussion opened up to the floor; this was both engaging and useful as there was plenty of thoughts and input from across the floor. Fundamentally membership is something that we can all play a part in so be sure to encourage your family and friends to visit!
The second speech was delivered by Ted Mellamphy and was a practical speech aimed at highlighting the importance of CPR in saving lives. The speech was quite hands on, as you can see:
Table topics were hosted by Louise Murphy with discussion on rugby and tea generating the most discussion. The aforementioned Tom picked up the best table topics award for his blasé tea-based assault on paddies resident in the room:
The grammarian's award went to Mary Martin for her effective usage of the word of the day (Protrusion) whilst describing the muscular stature of rugby players:
Well done to both award winners and we hope to see you again soon Mary, following in Tom's footsteps by joining.
John gave a general evaluation of the club with both praise and a suggestion to introduce a spoken poetry component to encourage newcomers to step up, perhaps ahead of an icebreaker.
The evening wrapped up with a reminder for the Blarney humourous speech contest on the 4th of October.
