Our meeting on May 24th was hosted by Toastmaster Moira O'Brien who introduced three speeches from the Competent Communicator manual.
The first speech was from Neil O'Brien giving his CC 4 speech entitle "The Lost Dog", which was evaluated by Sinead Huskisson. Neil was awarded the Best Speaker ribbon.
The second speech was from visiting Toastmaster Krystal Long, from Bishopstown Toastmasters, with her CC 5 speech entitled "My Journey with Speechcraft". Krystal was evaluated by Andrea Jahn. Krystal is a graduate of the Speechcraft programme run by Sharon O'Neill and Maria Gillen at the charity Dress for Success Cork.
The third and last speech was from our Treasurer Kathleen O'Mahony with a speech from CC8 entitled "Possessions", evaluated by Mary Walsh who won the Best Evaluator ribbon.
The Table Topics session was conducted by Maria Gillen and, as always, this was not the run of the mill session. Maria chose six members and had them tell a story based on the Six Part Story method used in psychology. It started with a storyteller, a Spailpin Fanach, transitioned through golfing and ended happily ever after with him married to the daughter of the US President with massive riches! Congratulations to all who took part and especially to Sinead Huskisson who won the Best Table Topic ribbon.
General Evaluator Victor Sullivan was assisted by Sargeant At Arms Jerome O'Donovan, Timekeeper Sharon O'Neill, Ah-Counter Lousie Murphy and last, but not least, Grammarian Ted Mellamphy who introduced a new prize for the most uses of the Word of the Day ("Replete") which he awarded to Maria Gillen.
President Mike McGrath closed the meeting.
