"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today" (Malcolm X).
Our first educational evening for the new Toastmaster year was a success.
The evening commenced on time with a warm welcome from Toastmaster Ben Light who set the scene for the training which followed.
Antonia, our Sergeant at Arms and Warm up master got everyone to share something that they have learnt which others could benefit from.
Claire, our Vice President Member, delivered a first-class lesson on giving effective feedback. The lesson was well structured, involved active audience interaction and loaded with skills that are applicable to work environments outside toastmasters. Setting clear objectives, praising improvement in performance and recognising achievements are skills that are relevant to Team Leaders and managing individuals’ personal development.
Our Vice President Public Relations, Gavin, delivered another first-class lesson on making the most of Easy-speak software which allows Toastmasters clubs to automate meeting planning, track and support members’ development. His expertise made it easy for the audience to follow and familiarise themselves with the full functionalities of the software and explore Pathways Basecamp on the Toastmasters International website. The shift from various project manuals to Pathways learning highlights the relevance of adapting to change.
The meeting concluded with the Club President Alista thanking everyone for their attendance, announced that the next club committee meeting would take place before the meeting on 6 Aug, and prompted the Club Officers to attend COT on 17 Aug 19.
