Tuesday 7th October saw three intrepid toastmasters take to the flow to demonstrate the power of verbal communication!
Jewels Carter was our Master of Ceremonies and got the meeting off to a positive and enthusiastic start with a warm welcome to all our members and Guests. She then went on to introduce our three Speakers.
Rowena (Ro) Dodds Was first up with her second speech entitled Why Toastmasters?. She shared her journey to date within the club with a moving and well pace speech. My favourite line from her speech was "Many people have never been truly heard until they speak at a toastmasters meeting."
Second up was new member Lee Werrell with his icebreaker speech entitled Me, a Question or A Statement. The purpose of the icebreaker speech is to introduce yourself to the club and demonstrate the speaking skils you already possess. Lee demonstrated that he is already a confident speaker as he shared his four rules for life. One of his rules was "Never accept second best" and he challeneged the audience to raise their expectations in every aspect of their lives.
Our third speaker was Marian Way. Marian is an experienced and longstanding member of the club and entertained us with a rib tickling tale from the Advanced Storytelling Speech manual called Silence is Golden. The action took place in a breast screening clinic! As ever marions timing was immaculate and as a result, the auience voted her the best speaker of the night.
