Our Blog  (Bishopstown Toastmasters)
Bishopstown Toastmasters, Meeting 15th of June.

On Saturday 15th of June, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters! It was a wonderfully entertaining club meeting.

Bishopstown Toastmaster's  President John Keating opened the meeting at 11.00 am, John handed the meeting over to  our  Toastmaster for the day Carol O'Donovan . Carol's gregarious personality shone as she conducted the Toastmaster role with great aplomb.  Carol  commenced our 419th meeting and with great panache explained the role.  Anita Howard, BT's serving Sergeant at Arms, shared an insightful quote after delivering the Sergeant At Arms report, " Be kind for everyone you meet is facing a hard battle".   Ros Longwell, a visiting TM from ROW  gave a speech titled " Flowers". This was a delightful speech that espoused the beauty of flowers and the holistic benefits of sowing and tending to our petaled friends. Ros's power point pics "wowed" the audience.   Paul O' Neill a  natural orator delivered a masterclass as he completed the CC Manual with his tenth speech titled "You got to T.O.F to Survive" . The word Toffing has now entered our Lexicon. To those not at the meeting this stands for " Thinking on your Feet". A synonym might be spoofing, but as we all know our erudite and profound thinking Paul has far exceeded spoofing and is a Bona fide Toffer.   This is a skill that Paul has continually displayed on his Toastmaster's Journey (Sorry Mary). Well done Paul for a truly original, erudite, inspiring and humerous 10th speech.  The Third Speech was by John Keating, Titled " 2nd Chance" and was the 6th project in the CC manual. This was an especially delightful speech for all Bt dog lovers.   The final Speech was by an Máistir Murt O Súilleabháin from the interpretive Reading 3 project, the Monodrama. This speech was titled " Soliloquay of a Spanish Cloister " by Robert Browing. Murt displayed great acting skills as he took on the Character of a disgruntled monk, ggrrr. It wouldn't be a surprise if Murt is retained by RTE for a major part in Fair City. Keep an eye on the TV listings as Murt will again appear on the RTE programme " The Brigade".

Next, we moved on to the Topics section of the meeting.  The irrepressable  and well prepared Kevin Walsh was the Table Topics Master on the day.  Kevin presided over a  thought provoking  selection of Topics that kept us on our toes and continually engaged. Our new Toastmaster, Oscar Yanguas, with great composure responded to his first Topic in BT TM . Well done Oscar for breaking the ice.  Our Grammarian of the day was Marie Broderick who chose " Ubiquitous" as the word of the day. The word of the day wasn't quite ubiquitously used. BT members can certainly improve on using the word of the day !!  The new Pause Master role was conducted by Tony Hayes who gave a detailed and informative report.   Our Timekeeper was Marian O' Mahony who performed this role  with due diligence and as importantly a smile.  There were 4 experienced evaluators - Mary O' Shaughnessy, Anita Howard, Conor Donovan and Daragh O' Donaile.  Each evaluator followed the primary important objective of evaluations and that is to leave the speaker feeling positive about their speech participation yet providing important feedback on where in their opinion  the speaker can further develop.   The General Evaluator role was conducted by Damian Loftus, Damian freely dispensed his wisdom .   Our Poetmaster Bernard Bucklery delivered the Poem of the day.     Each of the roles were carried out excellently by all the meeting Officers.

Our next meeting  is  Saturday  the  22nd of June .  This is at the usual time of 11am.    If you can, please arrive a few minutes early.  As always guests are cordially invited to attend.  Guests will not be asked to speak but may participate in the Topics session if they so wish by simply raising their hands. A wee reminder that this will be the election day for club officer roles.  If any members are interested please contact the President or Vpe.  See you all soon.

The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request.
