On Saturday 2nd of September, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters! It was a successful return from our month long break.
Conor Donovan achieved the Advanced Communicator Silver award! Well done Conor! :)
President Conor Donovan opened the meeting at 11am and he quickly handed over to the Toastmaster for the day who was Maria O'Donovan. Maria expertly presented the various stages of the meeting.
Maria introduced the speech section of the meeting - there were 3 prepared speeches. Carol O'Donovan gave the first speech which was called "Off The Cuff !!!". This speech was all about the value of theatre in our lives. The next speech was called "Preparation and Practice" and was given by Conor Donovan. Conor gave a nice educational speech about preparing to give a speech and the benefits of doing so. The third speech was given by Theresa Lynch and was called "Drama in the Air". This was a hilarious humourous story about an occasion that Theresa was on a long flight on a plane.
Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.
Damian Loftus was the Table Topics Master on the day. Damian had a good mix of topics. There was one about whether or not the EU is a cult and one about USA being a dangerous country. The Ah Counter on the morning was Maurice Murphy, the Timekeeper was Ronan Donovan and the Grammarian was Krystal Long. Krystal's choice for Word of the Day was Incoherent, meaning "without logical or meaningful connection"; this word was used 4 times! There were 3 evaluators - Mary O'Shaughnessy, Mike Mulcahy and Murt Ó'Súilleabháin. The General Evaluator was Kevin Walsh. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.
Our next meeting again is on Saturday 9th of September at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.
The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
