BTM Meeting 8/7/2017

On Saturday 8th of July, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters!

New President Conor Donovan opened the meeting at 11am and handed over to the Toastmaster for the day who was Carol O'Donovan. Carol expertly presented the various stages of the meeting.

Carol introduced the speech section of the meeting - there were 3 prepared speeches. Paul O'Neill gave the first speech which was called "The Art and Artistry of Janis Ian". In this speech, Paul revealed his love for the great singer, Janis Ian, and informed us about her great life story. The next speech was called "Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match" and was given by Ronan Donovan. This speech was all about the great performer and entertainer named Andy Kaufman. Kevin Walsh gave the third and final speech which was an educational speech called "The speech ideas list". Kevin spoke about the ways in which one can come up with ideas for a speech.

Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.

Jill Roche-Cagney was the Table Topics Master on the day. Jill had a good mix of topics. There was one about a time capsule and one about the best part of Cork city. The Ah Counter on the morning was Noel Sebbey, the Timekeeper was Sayed Ahmed Khatry and the Grammarian was Murt Ó'Súilleabháin. Murt's choice for Word of the Day was Banal, meaning "so lacking in originality as to be obvious and boring"; this word was used 3 times! There were 2 evaluators - Sharon Greally and Conor Donovan. The General Evaluator was Damian Loftus. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.

Our next meeting again is on Saturday 15th of July at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.

The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
