BTM Meeting 24/6/2017

On Saturday 24th of June, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters!

President Damian Loftus opened the meeting at 11am and swiftly handed over to the Toastmaster for the day who was Kevin Walsh.

Kevin introduced the speech section of the meeting - there were 4 prepared speeches. Jill Roche-Cagney gave the first speech which was called "Global Warming". In this speech, Jill spoke about the harmful effects of global warming and the need to eliminate the causes of global warming. The next speech was called "Lucille the loose seal" and was given by Ronan Donovan. This was a follow up to his previous speech - here, Ronan told the tragic story of the demise of a half-seal, half-octopus mutant. The next speech was called "What's in the club?" and was given by Aleksandra Rogulska. This was an educational speech where Aleksandra explained all about the club climate and how it can be improved. Mary O'Shaughnessy gave the fourth and final speech which was another educational speech. This speech gave the audience general advice on body language and how best to implement body language to enhance a speech.

Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.

Carol O'Sullivan was the Table Topics Master on the day. Carol had a good mix of topics. She had a question about "who are you more like: your mother or your father?" and also a couple of roleplaying topics. The Ah Counter on the morning was Noel Sebbey, the Timekeeper was Helena Dunne and the Grammarian was Mike Mulcahy. Mike's choice for Word of the Day was Altruism, meaning "disinterested and selfless concern for the well-being of others"; this word was used 5 times! There were 2 evaluators - Murt Ó'Súilleabháin and Damien Lynch. The General Evaluator was Conor Donovan. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.

At the end of the meeting, we had an Entertainment slot in which Tommy Lally delivered his speech for his upcoming wedding. Tommy was presented with a voucher and a tea cosy as presents.

We have a party coming up next Friday, 30th June, at 9pm in the Sextant Bar.

Our next meeting again is on Saturday 1st of July at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.

The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
