On Saturday 27th of May, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters!
Mike Mulcahy completed his 10th speech and achieved the Competent Communicator award! Well done Mike! :)
President Damian Loftus opened the meeting at 11am and he quickly handed over to the Toastmaster for the day who was Kevin Walsh.
Kevin introduced the speech section of the meeting - there were 3 prepared speeches. Mike Mulcahy gave the first speech which was called "Enjoy a liberating and refreshing experience in Cork..... and it's FREE !". In this speech, Mike talked about the joys of cycling around Cork city which is something you can experience free of charge. The next speech was called "Bernadette" and was given by Mary O'Shaughnessy. In this speech, Mary spoke of a woman she knew named Bernadette, who left a profound and lasting effect on Mary.Murt Ó'Súilleabháin gave the third and final speech which was called "Máire Bhuí's advice to her son". In this speech, Murt spoke about the Irish poet, Máire Bhuí Ní Laoghaire, and specifically the advice she gave to her son to marry a woman he loved.
Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.
Carol O'Sullivan was the Table Topics Master on the day. Carol had a good mix of serious and light-hearted topics. She had a question about Sean Fitzpatrick and also a roleplay-style topic called "Dear Blank". The Ah Counter on the morning was Maria Gillen, the Timekeeper was Noel Sebbey and the Grammarian was Sinead Long. Sinead's choice for Word of the Day was Zest, meaning "liveliness or energy"; this word was used 4 times! There were 3 evaluators - Tommy Lally, Ronan Donovan and Conor Donovan. The General Evaluator was Damian Loftus. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.
Our next meeting again is on Saturday 10th of June at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.
