On Saturday 6th of May, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters!
Margaret Keohane completed her Icebreaker on the day. Well done, Margaret! :)
President Damian Loftus opened the meeting at 11am and he was also Toastmaster.
Damian introduced the speech section of the meeting - there were 3 prepared speeches. Tommy gave the first speech which was called "Dear nephews". In this speech, Tommy read the inspring letter Jonathan Tepper wrote to his nephews when he was on a plane with a lot of turbulence. The next speech was called "The young king oscar wilde" and was given by Kevin Walsh. In this speech, Kevin read this great story by Oscar Wilde about a young prince who is about to become a king. Margaret Keohane gave the third speech which was her Icebreaker and was called "What's in a name?" In this speech, Margaret particularly focussed on the meaning and origins of her name - she especially loves her own surname.
Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.
Tony Hayes was the Table Topics Master on the day. He had a lot of interesting topics including one about the Eurovision, one about the Government being 1 year old and one about the Darkness Into Light walks. The Ah Counter on the morning was Ronan Donovan, the Timekeeper was Aleksandra Rogulska and the Grammarian was Mary Clancy. Mary's choice for Word of the Day was Benevolent, meaning "well meaning and kindly"; this word was used 4 times! There were 3 evaluators - Conor Donovan, Sankey Chibale and Sinead Long. The General Evaluator was Damien Lynch. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.
Our next meeting again is on Saturday 13th of May at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.
The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
