On Saturday 8th of April, we had yet another great meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters!
President Damian Loftus opened the meeting at 11am and he handed swiftly over to the Toastmaster for the day who was Kevin Walsh.
Kevin introduced the speech section of the meeting - there were 2 prepared speeches. Mike Mulcahy gave the first speech which was called "Around the World (kind of) in 80.....No!.....60 Days ". In this speech, Mike described the story of his trip around the world, taking in some exotic places including Hawaii. The next speech was called "I Just Can't Wait to be King" and was given by Conor Donovan. In this speech, Conor repeated his contest speech from a few weeks ago where he explained what he plans to do when he takes over the world.
There was then an Entertainment speech by Mary O'Shaughnessy. Mary spoke about her personal struggles when she bought a new mattress.
Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.
Damian Loftus was the Table Topics Master on the day. He had a lot of interesting topics including, "What is art?" and "What are your impressions of Cork?" The Ah Counter on the morning was Margaret Keohane, the Timekeeper was Carol O'Sullivan and the Grammarian was Helena Dunne. Helena's choice for Word of the Day was Impetuous, meaning "sudden or rash action"; this word was used 6 times! There were 2 evaluators - Murt Ó'Súilleabháin and Andrew Kirk. The General Evaluator was Tommy Lally. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.
Our next meeting again is on Saturday 22nd of April at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.
The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
