BTM Meeting 3/12/2016

On Saturday 3rd of December, we had yet another excellent meeting of Bishopstown Toastmasters!

Acting President Carol O'Sullivan opened the meeting at 11am and she handed swiftly over to the Toastmaster for the day who was Tony Hayes.

He then introduced the speech section of the meeting where we had 3 prepared speeches. Kevin McCarthy gave the first speech which was called "Me, Myself and I" and this was his Icebreaker.  This speech was a quick introduction to Kevin's life and why he joined Toastmasters. The next speech was "The Benefits of Riding a Bicycle", given by Mary Clancy. In this speech, Mary spoke about the many benefits of cycling, in particular health, economic and environmental benefits. The third speech was called "Don't judge people by their appearance" and was given by Kevin Walsh. Kevin delivered an eloquent speech on the importance of not judging people by their appearances.

Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.

Maria Gillen was the Table Topics Master on the day and she had some challenging topics. She had a wide range of topics including "3 favourite things about Christmas" and "favourite Christmas songs". We even sung a few songs as a group at the end of the session. The Ah Counter on the morning was Michelle Long, the Timekeeper was Cian Walsh and the Grammarian was Daragh O'Donaile. Daragh's choice for Word of the Day was Jollification, meaning "lively celebration with others; merrymaking"; this word was used 8 times! Daragh kindly offered one chocolate for each use of the word. There were 3 evaluators - Sinead Long, Helena Dunne and Conor Donovan. The General Evaluator was Tommy Lally. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.

We also had an Entertainment slot which was filled by Murt O'Súilleabháin. He recited a poem about Don John of Austria. This poem was well-received by all.

Our next meeting again is on Saturday 10th of December at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.

The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
