On Saturday 8th of October, we had a fantastic meeting that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
President Damian Loftus opened the meeting at 11am. Damian introduced the Toastmaster for the day, Carol O'Sullivan, who did an awesome job in her role.
We had 3 prepared speeches. Paul O'Neill gave the first speech which was 4th CC speech. The speech topic was about famous banned books throughout history. The next speech was "The Irish", given by Tommy Lally. This was a repeat of his contest speech in the Douglas club as he was preparing for the Area contest. The third speech was an Education speech on evaluations given by Damian Loftus. Just before Damian's speech, Conor Donovan used the Educational slot to read out 2 good poems.
Next, we moved on to the topics section of the meeting.
Mary Madden was the Table Topics Master on the day. Mary had a creative range of interesting topics! There were topics as diverse as one about "who do you love?" and one about the Garda controversies. The Ah Counter on the morning was Mary O'Shaughnessy, the Timekeeper was Sharon Greally and the Grammarian was Kevin Murray. Kevin's choice for Word of the Day was Egregious, meaning "extraordinary in some way"; this word was used 7 times! There were 2 evaluators - Daragh O'Donaile and Bernard Buckley. The General Evaluator was Tyrone Fehilly. Each of the roles was carried out excellently.
Our next meeting again is on Saturday 15th of October at the usual time of 11am. As always guests are very welcome to attend.
The library has asked the club not to enter the room until 10.45 am. Please endeavour to abide by this request
