BTM Meeting 25/6/2016

The meeting on Saturday 25th of June was an enjoyable one.

We had 3 speeches today. Firstly, Tony Galvin gave a speech entitled 'Calming the Nervous Puppy’. This was a project #1 speech, ‘The Icebreaker’, from the ‘Competent Communicator (CC) manual’. We all learned about Tony’s life journey and the interesting work which he practises. This speech was delivered with ease and superb confidence. That’s not bad for an icebreaker speech! We look forward to hearing more speeches from Tony in the future. The next speech, ‘Rub the Line Out’, came from Maria Gillen. This was a project #2 speech from the ‘Interpersonal Communication’ manual. Maria spoke about various types of communication and further explained this to us by doing a role-play scenario with Mary Madden. This speech was very well delivered and Maria was very helpful and informative in her approach. The final speech of the morning came from Murt O’ Suilleabhain. This was a project #1 speech from the ‘Better Speaker Series manual’. Entitled ‘Start Your Speech’. Murt showed us how to frame the beginning of a speech. This was also aided by handout sheets for the audience. Murt displayed his usual great wit and we learned a lot too.

Krystal Long was the Table-Topics Master today. There was a great mix of topics- delivered energetically and with a twist! Krystal gave each member the task of picking a piece of paper at random and speaking about the picture on the back of their paper. This was a unique and refreshing approach to the Table Topics role. The Toastmaster this morning was Tony Hayes. The Ah Counter was Bernard Buckley, the Timekeeper was Carol O’ Donovan and the Grammarian was Patrick Walsh. Patrick chose the word of the day, ‘Exquisite’. This was used many times throughout the meeting. The evaluators were Anouar Abdelkhalik, Damian Loftus and Mary O’ Shaughnessy. The General Evaluator was Tom Hebel. All roles were performed brilliantly today.
