Shakespeare abjured
The 25th April was a time to commemorate the 400th aniversary of Shakespeare's death.

Brent Crouch was sergeant at arms and got the meeting started and introduced the Toastmaster, Simon Roberts.
Simon explained the Toastmaster programme and the protocols, befoe explaining the theme and noted that Shakespeare
was responsible for many of the phrases we now use in our day to day conversation.

Amonn al Mahrouq was Timekeeper and he explained the importance for speakers to keep to time.

Charlotte O'Driscoll was our Grammarian for the evening and explained she would be watching the langauge used and hoped
people would use the word of the evening "abjure" a word often used by Shakespeare and meaning to abandon or reject".

Ray Adams was next up to lead the warm up. He referred to the many word Shakespeare introduced to our language and
asked if members had their own words. Everyone chipped in with a list of words used in their families, conjoined words and litle
used words.

Simon now introduced our three speakers: Sophy Smith with the benefits of choral singing with "Singing is good for you":
Aaron O'Sllivan with his three tips for a healthy life; and finally Juliette Scott with "Mondegreens and the Law" explaining
the problems of misheard words which can impact on what was intended.

The break followed, before Matt Roseblade, Marie Newmanand Premraj Premprakash gave their evaluations.

Clare Lay led the Table Topics asking those participating to weave well know Shakespearean phrases into their speeches.

With the final reports given Carolyn Barber gave the overall resume as General Evaluator, saying how she had really enjoyed
the evening.

It only left Wendy Benson to give out the club business, before giving out the awards. Keith Oliver then presented Wendy and
Ann Carver (Membership Secretary) a ribbon to the club for having recruited 5 or more members in February/March.

Two new members joined that evening Yousef Alaoui El Hachimi and Michelle Sullivan.

Wendy remined members that at the next meeting we would not be able to get into the room until 7:15 pm so asked
everyone to be on time so we could make a prompt start.
