Our usual December meeting was taken over by our Xmas social and Tall Tales Contest.
Unfortunately last year’s winner, Lesley Wells, was unable to defend her title through ill-health, and the club sent her its best wishes for a speedy recovery.
Wendy Benson led the proceedings and after the usual welcomes and protocols led us into a warm up session on Xmas past with members and guests regaling us with memories of their favourite Xmases from years gone by.
With everyone in suitable party mood, we moved to the Tall Tales Contest. Ann Carver started with her speech “The Dream” about how a dream of meeting old friends came true. Keith Oliver followed with “The Black Cat” about his sighting of a large black cat and the mystery behind it. Gavin Meikle concluded with ‘The Gobstopper Gang” a tale of revenge on a curmudgeonly old shopkeeper in Scotland.
We now moved to the break where we enjoyed the various festive fare brought by those present as well as the usual teas and coffee.
With all suitably sated we returned for a Table Topics session, hosted again by Wendy Benson, with participants drawing out topics from a Xmas stocking. The topics were, not surprisingly, on a festive theme.
The evening was rapidly drawing to a close and it only fell to Wendy to hand out the certificates of participation to our three speakers and to the two winners.
Keith Oliver closed the meeting reminding members our next meeting was on 12 January, before wishing everyone a Merry Xmas.
