It was another well attended meeting aswe gather ed after our enforced break, and it was good to see a good
number of guests in the audience.
Michael John called the meeting to order and as Toastmaster welcomed everyone and set the theme as
Autumn regaling us with several facts about the season during the meeting.
In the absence of Sophy, Stephen a returning guest, stepped in as Timekeeper. Keith Oliver explained his
role as grammarian and set the word of the evening as Poppycock. He then took on the role of warm up master and asked those present for their guilty secrets. A mix of dodgy music, minor car accidents and culinary delights followed.
We now welcomed Wendy Benson who gave a humorous speech on the need to complain more entitled “Flustered,
blustered, couldn't cut the mustard.” Robin Chawner followed with one of his own poems on the changing seasons with “Blossom leaves”, before Chris Ellis gave a topical speech “Ship Building No More?”
After the voting for Best Speaker we broke for a deserved network break.
We recommenced with the speech evaluations ably given by Gavin Meikle, Brent Crouch and Michael John
Smithson.
Paul Winfield took the role of Table Topics Master with volunteers choosing an eclectic mix of items and
places. Both members and guests rose to the challenge, with Gavin,Brent and Michael John being well challenged by three of our guess Jordan, Sheryl and Ilyas.
Robin Chawner gave an evaluation of their efforts, before Keith gave his opinion of the use of language
highlighting the good use of language we had enjoyed during the meeting.
Wendy Benson gave her opinion on the evening as a whole as General Evaluator before Keith reported on Club
Business. It then fell to Michael John to give out the awards.
