With our extended summer it is difficult to remember autumn is already upon us and the clock's will
soon be going back as we still enjoy summer temperatures.
Gavin took the role as Toastmaster and also helped out with Grammarian's role at the last minute as Wendy
was poorly. He set the evening's word as 'Mellow' which was used by all in the room during the evening.
Brent set the warm up asking us what things told us it was autumn, and the changing colours of the trees,
crane flies, fruits and the final mow of the lawn were all identified.
Allan Wadsworth then gave us a talk on“The Holiday”, indicating how he liked to chill out and have
everything organised for him, before Keith gave an educational speech on Taking the Terror out of the Talk. The three main points were topractice, to imagine a successful talk and to relax.
After a network break where members and guests were able to mingle we returned for the evaluations, capably
done by Gavin and Michael John.
Keith next set the Table Topics, having set out the importance of impromptu speaking, by using various fruits
to set to impose a variety of questions. An apple led to gravity, an orange to mobile phones,a pear to body shape etc. As usual answers were of a high quality and it was good to see our guests having a go.
Allan gave the General Evaluation picking up on how well the evening had gone, before Michael John handed out the awards and Keith concluded with club business.
After the meeting Chris Ellis signed up as a member.
