Our first meeting in September was our Humorous and Table Topics Contests night, and we were pleased to
welcome a couple of guests, including one who walked in of the street to see what was going on.
After Michael John and Keith explained proceedings, Elena got the meeting underway with the warm up asking
everyone to describe embarrassing moments. Personal stories and amusing encounters got us all in the mood for more laughter.
The draw saw Wendy Benson start with a speech entitled “Don't Sit Down” recounting a tale of para-gliding on her recent holiday in Slovenia. Keith Oliver followed with “Life in the Fast Lane” expressing the frustrations of shopping, and Brent Crouch brought up the rear with amusing tales of the personal trials and tribulations in The Joy of Sharing a Car.
Judging was done by all and after the slips were gathered up we broke for a network break while our chuckle muscles were able to relax.
We resumed the second half with the Table Topics Contest. Michael John set the question, on possibly harmful experiences on holiday. Adrian Reed, Wendy Benson and Keith Oliver participated.
While the votes were being totalled up Keith set out club business, displaying the certificate recently given the club by the Princes Trust. It is hoped this will be displayed in Sellers Coffee House.
Michael John handed out the certificates to the participants before announcing the winners, and handing over the trophies.
Humorous Speech Contest Winner –Wendy Benson, Runner up Keith Oliver
