Summer may be drawing to a close but it was one last hooray as we made our way to Southsea Common for our
summer social, an impromptu speech and topics extravaganza in the open air.
The weather was kind to us as we met for a barbecue and Keith Oliver got proceedings underway with a
Topics session on work/life balance. Everyone present joined in, and we were pleased to see members from neighbouring clubs and guests.
This was followed by speeches from a number of those attending, covering a veritable plethora of subjects
from the humorous to the moralising and with a degree of “what I did this summer”.
The two hours flew by ably assisted by Michael John's barbecue skills and home made elderflower champagne,
an excuse to attend by itself.
All agreed it was a great experience and plans are now afoot to repeat the exercise again.
