Snow lay on the ground once again as the club held its first contest.
Brent Crouch got us off to a warming start with a warm-up based on our memories of playing inthe snow.
We then moved on to the contest itself with three fine speeches. David Cockeram teed off with \\"A load of spheres\\" giving life lessons from the game fo golf. Keith Oliver followed with \\"Take a Risk\\" about making risks safe, before Michael John Smithson concluded with a humourous speech \\"On the Buses\\".
In a break from normal speech rules all attending were given a judging sheet to score the speakers.
After coffeee and networking we returned to a Table Topics led by Elena with a series of questions based on space, renewable energy and genetically engineered food amongst others.
We thenhad a workshop session led by Roin Chawner on what makes a great speech, in a speech entitled R.I.P in which he extolled the various ways anyone can lift a good speech to a great speech.
It only fell to award the participants in the contest with their certificates and to award David Cockeram the Spinnaker Speech Contest award.
