About Armada Speakers |
Armada Speakers is an enthusiastic, warm and friendly group of people who welcome visitors and new members. Our members come from all walks of life and all age groups.
We normally meet at 7pm on the first and third Tuesday of each month. On the first Tuesday we meet on Zoom and on the third Tuesday we meet at the Copthorne Hotel Plymouth, Armada Way, Plymouth, PL1 1AR.
We come to Toastmasters for various reasons: some of us are keen to progress in our chosen careers and want to polish our speaking skills for extra impetus in the workplace.
Other members join wanting to make that 'special' presentation or speak at a wedding. All our members have found that the friendships they make and the support they receive at the club just keeps them coming back for more.
Toastmasters is also a place where 'leaders are made'. At Armada Speakers we encourage the development of leadership skills to complement your speaking talents.
Having more confidence is something that most adults aspire to. Being able to speak in public is a dream for most of us. Joining Armada Speakers can deliver both.
We look forward to welcoming you to Armada Speakers. |

"Speech is power:
Speech is to persuade, to convert, to compel"

Everyone in a Toastmasters meeting was once at the level you are now. The environment is friendly and supportive, and the self-paced programme allows you to build confidence with each speaking assignment.
- A typical club has between 20 to 40 members who meet either weekly, biweekly or monthly. An evening meeting normally lasts around 90- 120 minutes.
- There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations, pointing out the strengths and suggesting improvements. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Members also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop their leadership skills.
-
We use the Toastmasters Pathways learning experience, an exciting, flexible and interactive way to develop your skills and help others in your club develop theirs. Pathways helps you learn communication and leadership skills that you need to succeed. It gives you:
- The opportunity to build up to 300 unique competencies
- 10 specialized learning paths to choose from
- Online content, so that you can learn anytime, anywhere
- Real-world, transferable skills
One thing that you'll love at Toastmasters meetings is the applause. At first you'll be applauded for your effort; later you'll be applauded for your skill.

The Toastmasters Mission A statement of shared values
Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater selfconfidence and personal growth.
Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.
