Area Governor duties

Your District and Division

1. Attend District Officer Training.

2. Attend meetings of the District Executive Committee, District Council and Division Council.

3. Work with the Division Governor and District Governor to keep them informed of progress and perform duties requested by them.

4. Advise the District Governor about who might be appointed as a suitable successor (except in districts where Area Governors are elected).

Your Area

1. Commit to reaching the highest possible Distinguished Area status.

2. Organise the Club Officer Training - unless it is done in your Area by the Division or District.

3. Organise the Area Contests, one in Autumn and one in Spring.

4. Prepare for, and preside over, meetings of your Area Council.

Your Clubs

1. Ensure every Club register their officers by 30th June. For clubs electing their officers annually, a Distinguished Club point is lost if officers are not registered before the start of the Toastmasters year.

2. Make at least two visits to each Club in your Area, one July to September and one January to March, and complete Area Governor Reports on both occasions.

3. Ensure Clubs pay their Semiannual Membership Dues (semis) by 1st October and 1st April. Bear in mind that college and company clubs usually take longer than community clubs to arrange payment, so start helping them earlier.

4. Motivate every Club to achieve the highest possible Distinguished Club status, and contact each President regularly to discuss progress.

5. Ensure no Club loss. A Club Coach can be appointed to help a club with 12 or fewer members.

6. Assist with the building of new clubs.

7. Assist Clubs with any technical queries concerning their votes or proxies:
* 2 votes at at the International Business Meeting - see Proxy FAQ
* 2 votes at each District Business Meeting (sample form at the bottom of this page)
