Prepared Speaker
|
The Prepared Speaker gives a speech for which prior notice has been given.
Duties:
- Deliver a speech from a Toastmasters communication manual
- (see educational awards)
- Provide the speech's title and timing to the Toastmaster of the meeting
- Give your manual to the Evaluator, who will study the objectives and make written comments about the speech
- Inform the Evaluator about any additional aspects you would particularly like observed (for example: voice, gestures, use of notes)
A few tips:
- Check the Agenda to see when you are scheduled
- Choose a seat that makes it easy for you to get to the lectern
- When you begin your speech, acknowledge your fellow Toastmasters and guests
- (This is not compulsory)
- Have a beginning that grabs attention and draws people into the speech
- Have signposts to show where the speech is going
- Have a memorable ending - such as an expression that sums up what you have said, or a call to action
- There is no need to thank the audience - they should thank you with applause
