Open Night Action Plan

PR campaign

We need to make a splash about this “Free cheese and wine reception at the re-launch of Shannon Toastmasters”, “Did you know the Dara O’Brian started his career as a member of Toastmasters”.
We need to produce targeted advertising i.e. Local Macra clubs: How TM can help in winning your next debate. Active Retirement Groups: Come for a fun
night out etc. Posters, leaflets, local paper, radio etc. Do we’ve any high profile members from the past who are good at networking?

Format of Meeting

1st Half of meeting (8.15pm – 8.50pm)

  1. Brief introduction to Toastmasters, removing any negative misconceptions
    • Did you know the comedian Dara O’Brian is an ex-member of TM?
    • Name check other politicians / entrepreneurs / famous people that were members of TM in the past
    • Some other interesting facts
    • Outline the format for the meeting
  2. Explain the purpose of Topics, timing, open encourage guests to take a topic / add-on etc. and then have a Lively Topic Session ( 8 – 10 Topics, some humorous if possible )
  3. Give out the Contest Topic to audience
  4. Handover
  5. Explain the Toastmasters competitions marking scheme for the Topic Session
  6. Show Winning TM Humorous Topic (DVD)

2nd Half of meeting (9.10pm – 9.50pm)

  1. Welcome back Brief introduction to next 2 speakers
  2. Deliver a speech on TM (based loosely on the following)
    • Who founded it
    • Goal of clubs
    • Mention other clubs in area
    • etc.
    • Number of members worldwide
  3. Deliver a speech on what to expect if you join, (based loosely on the following) Siobhan Doherty
    • Fee for rest of year
    • CC Manual (calling out the
    • objectives for Stage 1, 5 and 9 etc.)
    • CL manual, explaining some
    • roles (A and M counter, Topic master etc.)
    • Magazine
  4. Interview of 3 current members, new and old (2 minutes) based loosely on the following
    • Why they joined
    • What their initial impression
    • How it has met their needs
  5. Ask the audience what their expectations/perceptions are (with one staged guest)
  6. Invite guests to return to Shannon or any of the other clubs in the area
  7. Close the meeting
