When you come to Kilkenny to the Three Castles Conference you can also experience enjoyment outside the confines of the formal agenda of the conference.

Friday afternoon on arrival we are pleased to offer first timers a welcoming Cuppa. Mary O’Connor and Eileen Leahy will host this event. Here, newcomers can get some valuable information on how to derive the most value from the weekend and get to know some of their fellow delegates. They will enjoy a cuppa and have a little fun and games all in the interest of breaking the ice and getting to know each other.

The theme for Friday’s buffet dinner is 60’s. So get out those bell-bottoms, the flowers for your hair and the platform shoes and join in the fun at the 60’s disco. Who knows, you may be the one to scoop the prize of a weekend break. If you miss the big prize don’t loose heart there will be more prizes on offer to keep up the spirits.

The tradition of the craic will be upheld in Kilkenny. The sessions will be in the capable hands of a genial host to ensure you all get the most out of this informal sing song and story telling opportunity. These sessions are perfect for insomniacs and performers but be warned they are not for the faint hearted.

Saturday, fresh from the night (or small hours) before, we propose the following programme (no additional cost) for delegates who will not attend the council meeting..
Catherine Ryan will lead a medieval meander through some of Kilkenny's streets and lanes and bring them to life with stories and lore. To revive the midway flagging feet and appetites morning coffee and cake will be served in Butler House a Georgian residence once the home of the Earls of Ormonde.

This house boasts sweeping staircases, magnificent plastered ceilings and marble fireplaces. Access to Butler house is through the internationally renowned walled garden restored in 1999. Refreshed, the tour will move on to Kilkenny Castle.

A guided tour will take you through the historic 12th century castle into rooms recently restored to their 1830’s splendour. The long gallery is a wonderful feature of this castle.

After the castle visit there will be time to visit Kilkenny design Centre located in the old stables and coach house opposite the Castle. It has an extensive range of Irish craft products. The centre stocks Irish made clothing for both male and female, ceramics linens and gifts.

There will be ample time to continue your own meander and take lunch at your leisure before returning to the conference hotel for the Humorous Speech Contest.
