About Our Club |
Our meetings are participative. We begin with Table Topics - six or seven brief impromptu presentations lasting about two minutes. These are then evaluated. Receiving and giving such feedback is a great learning experience.
After a break of 10-15 minutes, prepared speeches are delivered. Usually this section consists of three or four speeches depending on planned speech length. These speeches are evaluated by a fellow club member. Each time you give a prepared speech, the evaluator will point out strengths as well as suggesting improvements. Everyone at a Toastmasters meeting feels welcome and valued - from complete beginners to advanced speakers; from evaluators to enthusiastic members of our audience. There is no rush and no pressure: The Toastmasters programme allows you to progress at your own pace.
How it benefits you
Whether you're an executive, a college student, a stay-at-home parent, or a retiree, you will improve yourself. At Great Western Speakers Club, you will hone your speaking skills in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. You will develop leadership abilities - through evaluating others, listening, mentoring, serving as club officers and filling roles in club meetings. The speaking and leadership skills are transferable and vital assets whether you are running a business, mentoring colleagues, organizing projects, coaching teams or heading up families. Participants will open up a world of new possibilities: you will give better work presentations; you will better lead meetings and participate in them more confidently; you will speak more smoothly off the cuff; you will be able to handle one-on-one interactions with family, friends and colleagues more positively. Come and see for yourself.

The Toastmasters Mission A statement of shared values
Every Toastmasters club shares the same mission, clearly defined in the following mission statement:
We provide a supportive and positive learning experience in which members are empowered to develop communication and leadership skills, resulting in greater selfconfidence and personal growth.
Through this mission, each Toastmaster gains a clear understanding of the club's purpose, and the organization as a whole benefits from a shared set of values and goals.
